Equine Physiotherapy

Equine Physiotherapy can benefit horses of all disciplines, whether it be for a specific injury/condition, or to maintain performance and prevent problems arising in the future.
Beth treats horses of all levels, ranging from happy hackers through to elite level competition horses.
Animals communicate problems and pain through subtle changes in their performance and/or behaviour. As a physiotherapist, Beth is highly skilled at observing behaviour and movement patterns within her assessment, helping identify any areas of pain, weakness and compensation.

What does your Equine Physio appointment involve?

  • On arrival, we take a detailed history of your horse.
  • We then assess your horse both statically and dynamically – this will involve observing your horse standing square, walking in a straight line, trotting in a straight line, turning on a tight circle and reining-back. In some cases, we will see your horse on the lunge and ridden (if required).
  • Following this, a physical examination is completed involving palpation and joint range of movement assessment.
  • After a thorough assessment, a treatment plan will be formulated
    – Treatment may involve a combination of modalities including, manual therapies, pulsed electromagnetic field therapy, neuromuscular electrotherapy and/or class 3b laser therapy.
  • Beth will then advise on post-treatment work programmes, exercise prescription and follow-up treatment. If required, a report can be sent to your veterinarian.
  • We’re always happy to hear how you’re managing and answer any questions or concerns between visits.

The number of follow-up treatments will depend on individual vet diagnoses, responses to treatment, age, lifestyle and other health issues.
