Rider Physiotherapy

Asymmetries, imbalances/weaknesses, stiffness and pain affect our function and performance, also impacting that of the horse; vice versa.
Harmonious movement between horse and rider is key to optimising performance. The ability of the rider to control and coordinate their movements whilst absorbing the forces from the horse is crucial in achieving a good seat. Any pain/injury/weakness we have hinders this ability, leading to compensations that affect the quality of our ridden aids and balance, further inhibiting the horses’ movement and performance.

As a Chartered Physiotherapist, Beth is able to assess and treat both horse and rider, understanding the significance, interaction and influence of each biomechanical component. By optimising your strength, symmetry and technique, you elevate your partnership and well-being as a whole with your horse.
Whether you have a specific musculoskeletal condition/injury, or just want to improve your technique and performance in the saddle, Beth’s bespoke physiotherapy service is here to help.

Signs of Rider Asymmetry/Weakness:

If you feel any of the above apply to you, then you may benefit from a rider physiotherapy assessment.

What does your Physio appointment involve?

  • Initially, we take a detailed history of your concern and medical history.

  • Your posture and movement patterns will then be assessed through an appropriate selection of functional, range of movement, strength, stability and nerve testing.

  • Following thorough assessment, an individualised treatment plan will be formulated.

  • Treatment techniques utilised vary depending on individual needs and clinical reasoning but may include manual therapy (massage, joint mobilisations, myofascial release, trigger point release, passive stretching), electrotherapy (class 3b laser, NMES) and exercise therapy.

  • You will then be prescribed a tailored exercise plan centred to your needs.

The number of follow-up treatments will depend on your diagnosis, response to treatment, age, lifestyle and other health issues.
